LaVerne's Story
Married Dan Gateley (class of '73) in 1984. Divorced in 1988. Attended Univ of Oregon and graduated with a BA in Journalism from Southern Oregon Univ in 1992. In 1990 I married Roger Walenine, MD and lost him that same year to Leukemia. I served 14 years in Army National Guard as a journalist, recruiter, retention NCO, readiness NCO and High-Ropes instructor. as a personal trainer) before traveling and creating North Technologies, a web and mobile app tech startup company and then founded Next of Kin, a clothing line created entirely of reclaimed materials...great fun! I raised four great kids and now have two grand kids. In 2001 I thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail and upon returning legally changed my name to True North. Live in Portland, Oregon. Currently (2024), I am rewriting a fiction novel and caring for my mother in Grants Pass, Oregon.
